The English Carnival 2012

Hi students...
The English Carnival of SMKS3 is just around the corner....
Here we come... Enjoying the virtues and beauty of the English Language itself.
The theme of this year's Carnival is "Towards Achieving Excellence in English Language". I hope everybody will participate in all the activities carried out on this coming Wednesday (9th May, 2012 @ 9.30am). There are many activities planned for all of you. Among them are the Thesaurus Competition, The Scrabble Competition, The Crossword Puzzles, The Public Speaking Competition & last but not least, the awaited Singing Contest..
So, to all participants, be encouraged and brave enough to stand up and present your case..

Figures of Speech (Similes)

Hello students,
       How are you getting on? Teacher really hopes that everybody is doing fine...
Today we will talk about Simile..One of the ways of securing variety in written expression is to use what are so called 'Figures of Speech', that is, the use of words in a non-lateral sense or unusual manner, to add vividness, beauty for example to what is said or written.
        It is very important to know that both Similes and Metaphors are form of Comparison:
              a. A Simile makes a direct comparison between two things having some quality in common,   
                  so that one or the other is made more vivid by the comparison.
              b. A Metaphor makes an indirector implied comparison. When we compare two objects
                  without using 'like' or 'as', we are using Metaphor.
                 Example: as agile as a monkey, as alike as two peas, as clear as crystal, and as easy as
                 ABC..
Go ahead and use these examples of Simile in your writing and everyday conversation. If you are interested, I can lend you a book entitled 'English Similes. Idioms, Metaphors & Proverbs.

It had been a long time since I did oit write on the blog. How is everybody? I hope all the staff and students are doing well... Students, since you have already finished your UBI and now are on holidays, I hope that you will have time to keep it up with the blog and continue browsing it...
